When menstrual pain appears it’s absolutely normal to be moody. You are just a hormonal bomb ready to boom in every minute. And, obviously you take a handful of pain killers just to combat the pain and to function like a normal person again. But pain killer aren’t the best solution every time. Why poisoning us every month with a pill when we can try drinking a cup of tea or relieving the pain a warm compress. Oatmeal: it digests slowly, and gradually releases sugar into the bloodstream. This will combat your cravings for sweets that you feel before and during your period.
Citrus: both, eaten natural or squeezed to drink a natural juice, will promote iron absorption in the body. You should know that during menstruation, your body can deal with iron deficiency due to abundant bleeding. Other iron sources, which you should keep in mind, during this period is: apricots, liver, vegetables, fortified cereals and crustaceans.
Red meat: it has rich iron content, and beside that, it’s rich in zinc (which your body loses during menstruation). This mineral is necessary for bone health, and a deficiency can lead to amenorrhea (absence of menstruation). Other sources rich in iron and zinc are: chicken, fish and green leafy vegetables.
Avocado: contains serotonin which enhances the neurotransmitter responsible for your mood. Other sources of serotonin are: eggplant, plums, dates, papaya and pineapple.
